Day 6: What Do You Do

Today is about what I do ...
I have two jobs.
I am on my feet all day for both jobs.
One job I get to be the teacher when the regular classroom teacher is gone.
The other job I get to serve people food.
My day starts with the Pledge of Allegiance.
It ends with sweeping tables.
In between each day there is ...
attendance and lunch count
reading of stories
practicing spelling words and vocabulary
can I go to the bathroom?
glue and glitter everywhere
recess
no you cannot play dodgeball at school
can I get a drink of water?
math problems to be solved
science experiments
history
can I go to the bathroom?
taking drink orders
making bar drinks
taking food orders
is my food almost ready?
running around the restaurant with three plates stacked on one arm
bussing tables
making desserts
sweeping tables

Blog Every Day in May Day 4 & 5

Day Number Four: Favorite Quote & Why You Love It

“Be Yourself. Let who you are, what you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish.”

- John Jakes

The first time I read this quote it immediately resonated with me.  It is about staying true to yourself.  It is about carrying yourself in a way that reflects what you believe in.  It is one thing to say what you believe - it is a another thing to constantly uphold yourself to your own values.

Day Number Five:  Blogger You Adore

I love ready this little mama to be's blog.  She is a California girl living in the South, which I can relate to.  Her blog focuses on adventures with her husband for their job, their gorgeous home in North Carolina, and more recently her pregnancy.  Grab a cup of coffee and read this blog.

Day 3: Things That Make You Uncomfortable

Things That Make Me Uncomfortable:

Guys at Victoria's Secret.  It makes it very awkward when you are shopping for panties.

Having to tell a table their credit card was declined.

When I am standing in line to check out and the people behind me are in my personal space.  Get off me!

When I am shopping and polietely say excuse me to go down an aisle and the person does not move.

When people are talking loudly so you can hear their entire conversation.

When someone is talking on their cell phone in a public bathroom.

Wet hair on the back of my shirt.

Not wearing a bra - I cannot do it.

Going on a water ride and getting soaking wet - I did it once and was wearing jeans and was so uncomfortable the rest of the day I now have an aversion to water rides.

When you are at a sporting event and have to say excuse twelve times just to leave your row to go get a drink or use the restroom.

Day 2: Something I Know A Lot About

First I thought about writing about at being a bridesmaid, I know a lot about that.  If I had kept all the dresses I would have a closet 27 Dresses worthy of sharing.  However, I decided my hot pink bridesmaid dresses (yes, I had more than one) would have a higher probability of being worn again if I donated to a charity that provides prom dresses to girls.  I retired from bridesmaid duties this January and have sworn off walking down the aisle until I am the one wearing white.

I know a lot about serving tables, I have served/bar tended for the past six years ...

A lot of people are hangry when they go out to eat.  While I am taking their order I am convinced they might pull a steak knife on me to get their food, once it is in their belly I am the greatest person in the world.

If a guest is over 70 the soup will never be warm enough.  They want it scalding hot.  And probably want coffee when it is 100 degrees outside.

They also probably don't want to be sat by children either, because you know "non-children" sections exist. Right.

People think it is their right to drink, it actually is a privilege.  I can cut you off.

Never assume people actually read the menu.

Thus they try and order the Bloomin' Onion.  I don't work at a place even remotely close to an Outback.

Then they will swear up and down that they had a Bloomin' Onion here once.  Then they will again ask me if I am sure we don't have a Bloomin' Onion.

People think if they wink at you and order their drink easy ice they will get more alcohol.  All you will get is more of whatever the alcohol is being mixed with.  If you want a stronger drink order a double.

You always get a table on Friday night who has to be somewhere in a hurry.

They usually also order their meat well done. Help me help you, order it RARE.  Or go to McDonald's.

People love  to say they are ready to order and then point to everyone else at the table to buy them more time to look at the menu.  Don't waste my time.

Parents also love to say they are ready to order and then go through each and every item with their child on the kids menu while I am standing there.  Nothing is worse than trying to take an order while a kid is having a meltdown because we don't have a corn dog.

People like to make disgusted faces when you off them meat cooked medium.  I don't even think people realize they do it.

Pepsi lovers also make said disgusted face when I ask them if Coke is alright.  I am a Coke loyalist so I don't understand why they are upset ;)

People love to apologize for coming into eat 5 minutes before we close.  I understand we are still open - but if you feel like you need to apologize for coming in - go somewhere else.  Or leave me a FAT TIP.

All sarcasm aside I do enjoy my job, most days, there are just some angry hangry people that make it a little more difficult to be polite.  I also firmly believe you can tell a lot about a person based on how they treat servers.

Story of My Life {in 250 words or less}

I was born September 21, 1986 in Southern California.  That year it was the first day of fall so I consider myself a fall baby, even though some years it is the last day of summer.  Four years later my younger brother was born and to this day he is my best friend.  We live and work together.  Shortly after my brother was born we moved to Northern California where I learned to love football and the San Francisco 49ers.  When I was in middle school we moved to Columbus, Georgia where I learned that college football is more important than pro football and picked up my love for Alabama.  I also learned that tea is best served sweet, and y’all may not be in the dictionary but it is most certainly a word.  When I was in high school we moved back to Southern California.  I graduated high school in 2004 and moved to San Diego to attend San Diego State University.  I loved living in San Diego and I loved the independence.  I graduated college in 2009 with my bachelor’s in elementary education (liberal studies) and received my teaching credential in 2010.  Finding a full time teaching job isn’t the easiest right now so I substitute as much as I can, serve tables at night, and am currently looking for a full-time job until there are more teaching opportunities.  My favorite song is Sweet Home Alabama and I prefer whiskey on the rocks over wine. Roll Tide Roll!
{I had three words left – so I had to throw that in}
